The latest episode of: Why you should read this Baby!
-This is a amazingly researched video that is mainly for fans of 90′s Marvel and Scott Lobdell (if you are not a fan of Lobdell or 90′s comics this video is not recommended for you). If you were a fan I guarantee you will enjoy this vid learn lots.
-This is a really great review of a crossover that is mainly forgotten. With art by Leinil Francis Yu, Salvador Larroca, and Tom Raney.
- This is the last Scott Lobdell X story, the last Magneto story before his ideology changed, the last X story before Grant Morrison and Joe Casey took over and the first story Cyclops ever used sarcasm in!
In the 90s some teen dramas like Beverly Hills 90210 and Dawson’s Creek had an enormous (and deeply deserved) success: this led to the creation of comics about young superheroes who were facing not only this villain or that, but also their youth problems. The best one definitely was Lobdell’s Generation X, in my opinion: that marvellous comic book closed in 2001, and since then every similar title didn’t last more than a few years. Unfortunately, it seems that teen-drama-like comics are not a big thing anymore. Apart from Young Avengers, the only one still surviving is Teen Titans, as far as I know – and, as chance would have it, the writer of Teen Titans is the creator of Generation X, Scott Lobdell. He’s simply born to write this particular genre of comics – in fact, Teen Titans is the best New 52 series, along with Animal Man and Team 7.
Wow, great history lesson. I do remember the time of teenage dramas all over TV. I like really human emotion centered comics so I love the more character driven books. Generation X was awesome, I just re-read most of it. The first run of Young Avengers was incredible, I fell in love the original series and felt it touched on the issues teens deal with really well. I am hopeful for the new series. I gotta admit, due to being a Marvel guy and kinda annoyed with Lobdell lately I haven’t given Teen Titans a shot. It felt like a lot of his views on things lately have gone against much of his civil rights themes of the past plus he came off as acting like he was the voice of gay men which was just obnoxious of him. But I may check it out soon since you recommended it. As for other good teen stuff I enjoy anything with Brian Wood including Ultimate X-Men and Demo.
I’ll look into them. And I hope Young Avengers will last too. Thank you for your reply! : )
